RM Borehole and Well Hand Pumps
The Dedicated WatSan WASH Hand pump:
How is it different?...
Lift linkage
The most obvious difference to conventional piston pumps is that external synthetic webbing replaces the steel lift rods. This has several advantages:
- There is no internal rod which allows for a simpler valve design and reduced water flow restriction
- A significant reduction in weight and bulk. The webbing is transported as a compact roll
- Simple assembly. Once set up correctly no further adjustment is required
- No rod corrosion issues
- A considerable reduction in the number of parts
- Stretching of the webbing is very minimal. After installation no further adjustment is required
- Without the normal central lift rods connection to a storage tank or irrigation pipes is a simple process
Piston and Cylinder
The piston has no seal as found in conventional pumps. It is a precision fit inside the cylinder with a bearing surface very much larger than in conventional pumps. This method is found in many diesel injector pumps. Especially selected materials used in the piston and cylinder results in superior wear resistance and working life
Valves
Valves are existing off-the-shelf units manufactured in Italy. A modification performed in our workshop extends the seat working life.
Rising Main
The rising main is comprised of 2-m length, threaded, heavy-walled PVC sections allowing a complete unit to be transported by the likes of a ambulance-type Land Cruiser
Pump Head
The pump head is available in 3 options:
- A complete stand-alone unit
- A retrofit for a Afridev base
- A retrofit for a India Mark 2 base
